World Bank to finance Ukraine's education system for $415 million
The World Bank's Board of Directors has approved the Improving Access to and Sustainability of Education in Times of Crisis in Ukraine (Learn) project. Its funding is $415 million
Ukraine's Ministry of Finance reports.
The Learn project aims to improve the conditions for teaching and learning, as well as to ensure that students, teachers, and school staff have access to safe conditions for face-to-face teaching and learning.
The project agreement is scheduled to be signed in September 2024. The Ministry said that by the end of this year, Ukraine will be able to receive $200 million to the general fund of the state budget.
“The Learn project will help thousands of Ukrainian students return to a protected learning environment. The creation of such initiatives is an extremely timely and necessary decision to support, restore and develop key sectors of the economy and the country's vital activity,” said Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko.
- Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, over 3,400 educational institutions have been damaged or destroyed by Russian attacks.
