U.S., UK, Germany, France lift restrictions on weapon range for Ukraine — Merz
Chancellor Friedrich Merz has announced that Germany, along with the United States, France, and Great Britain, has lifted restrictions on the range of their weapons used by Ukraine
This was reported by Clash Report, CGTN, and Breakingthenews, citing a WDR broadcast.
According to Merz, Kyiv is now allowed to strike targets on Russian territory with long-range weapons. He also emphasized that Germany no longer restricts Ukraine in the use of long-range weapons.
"There are no more restrictions on long-range weapons supplies to Ukraine - neither by the British, nor the French, nor us, nor the Americans. This means that Ukraine can now defend itself, including, for example, by striking military positions on Russian territory," the German Chancellor emphasized.
Later, Scholz confirmed on X: Ukraine can defend itself by striking military targets in Russia.
“We will do everything in our power to continue supporting Ukraine. This also means there are no longer any restrictions on the range of the weapons we supply. Now, Ukraine can also defend itself by attacking military positions in Russia,” the Chancellor emphasized.
At the same time, Spiegel reports, citing its own sources, that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may visit Berlin on Wednesday, May 28. It is noted that he and Merz are expected to discuss further steps regarding technical negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
The German Chancellor also wants to inform Zelenskyy about plans for a new sanctions package against Russia, the goal of which is to increase pressure on the Kremlin to participate in negotiations.
