Why recognizing Crimea’s annexation will lead to global chaos
I’m trying to understand Trump’s logic, and these cause-and-effect conclusions just don’t make sense to me
So, Russia attacked Ukraine because it (how could it do such a thing) mentioned it wanted to join NATO. Which, I remind you, no one ever accepted Ukraine into. Crimea was "seized" by Putin even before NATO aspirations were enshrined in Ukraine’s Constitution.
Therefore, the U.S. can certainly choose to officially recognize Crimea as Russian. It's their decision.
But here’s the problem — all the first sanction packages were imposed precisely because of this action, which violated all principles of international law. So, the next step will be pressure to unblock accounts. And globally, they will set off new chaotic processes.
Legitimizing the "annexation" will open a Pandora’s box that will eventually serve as a pretext for even worse annexations. And most importantly, this action will in no way stop Moscow from seeking control over all of Ukraine.
But if they want to play with fire, fine. How can you make someone enjoy life when they’re determined to end it with a tragic suicide?
