Rutte stated that it was necessary to observe how the situation would develop, step by step. He emphasized that it was crucial for Ukraine to be actively involved in any discussions concerning the country.
When asked about the phone call between Trump and Putin, he responded affirmatively, suggesting it gave the impression of being a successful conversation. He noted that everyone desired peace in Ukraine and highlighted the importance of ensuring that Ukraine was in the best possible position. He also stressed that a peace agreement should be long-lasting, ensuring that Putin would never again be able to attempt to seize part of Ukraine. Rutte mentioned that this issue was likely also on the minds of President Trump and his team, and that NATO would continue to closely coordinate with its allies in the coming days and weeks.
