Ukraine, unlike West, isn’t experiencing nation-state crisis
The deep crisis of the nation-state is perhaps the main explanation for the modern problems of Western civilization
The selfish cosmopolitan individual sees the state not as a value but as a donor. An infantile person knows only how to take, not to give. They live wherever it’s more profitable and comfortable, with no connection to traditions and no sense of obligation to the country’s past. A prolonged period of general prosperity and the absence of perceived threats were inevitably bound to lead to this. But this situation cannot last forever.
"I’ll say right away that this applies to Ukraine to a much lesser extent than to most other Western countries."
We are in a much better position here, especially since the beginning of the full-scale war. At a high cost, Ukraine can and must strengthen itself as a nation-state.
Such a state in today’s democratic world is becoming a great rarity and a desirable place for adequate citizens from developed countries. In this sense, we are a very competitive force.
It is important not to squander this advantage.
