Ukraine is defending Europe, now it’s time for Europe to step up — MP Kniazhytskyi
Ukrainian MP Mykola Kniazhytskyi noted that Europe is currently waking up due to the emergence of a military threat
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
“We are now living in a state of shock because of the war and our future. Europe is beginning to wake up, but this is happening because a possible military threat has emerged. No one in Europe knows what the U.S. position in NATO will be, whether Article 5 of NATO will be enforced. Discussions have already begun about joint defense, joint development, and joint reconstruction,” Kniazhytskyi remarked.
According to the MP, Europe has always relied on the American “umbrella.” Now, the French say they are ready to provide a nuclear “umbrella” to protect European countries. Europe’s role should significantly increase in Ukraine’s future, as Ukraine is truly defending Europe. Ukraine has the strongest army and is integrating into the EU.
“Unfortunately, this role of Europe is developing more slowly than we would like because Europe has indeed relied on the U.S. for many issues. Europe has not been deeply concerned about security problems, as everyone always knew that America could provide protection.
Imagine a scenario where America makes a deal with China and Russia, dividing the world among the three of them and leaving Europe under Russia’s influence. Russia carries out mass mobilization and launches an offensive. Just imagine—I’m not saying this will happen—but theoretically, if everyone turns away from us, if we have no weapons, if Russia occupies Ukraine and forcibly mobilizes Ukrainian men, then throws them into battle against Poland and other European countries.
This is why supporting Ukraine is extremely important, and Poland, more than anyone else, must understand this to convince other countries to support us,” Kniazhytskyi emphasized.
- On March 4, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented a new EU plan to strengthen the defense industry and military capabilities.
