
UK confirms U.S. military aid halt to Ukraine, reaffirms its support
On March 4, the UK government assured Ukraine of its continued support after the U.S. halted its military aid to Kyiv
This was reported by The Guardian, citing a statement from the British government.
"We remain absolutely committed to securing a lasting peace in Ukraine and are engaging with key allies in support of this effort. It is the right thing to do, and is in our interest to do so," stated Downing Street.
The UK government noted that the United Kingdom has strengthened Ukraine's military capabilities, committing to provide Kyiv with £3 billion annually in military aid "for as long as it takes ." They also added that London had provided a £2.26 billion loan to Ukraine using frozen Russian assets.
"Additionally, we have established a partnership with Ukraine that allows them to use £1.6 billion of UK export financing to purchase 5,000 air defense missiles manufactured in Belfast, putting Ukraine in the strongest position to achieve peace," the statement continued.
U.S. aid suspension: What we know
U.S. media reported that Donald Trump ordered the suspension of all current military aid to Ukraine until he is certain that the country's leaders are "demonstrating a sincere commitment to peace." All U.S. military equipment, including weapons still en route to Ukraine, is being transferred by air and sea or is waiting in transit zones in Poland, where it will remain.
On March 4, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the U.S. had stopped supplying military shipments to Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated: "We remain completely calm and will continue working diplomatically with the US, with the US Congress, with the Trump administration, and with President Trump himself through all available channels."
