Trump’s Western Hemisphere obsession stands out — political scientist Ash
The leaders of China, Russia, and the United States want to divide the world into three parts. But if Europe shows enough political will, it can stop this from happening
Political scientist and journalist Timothy Ash said this in an interview with the host of the Studio West program Anton Borkovskyi on Espreso TV.
“These three powerful, in their opinions, leaders want to see the world divided this way. Great powers come together—if not in Yalta, then somewhere else — to make deals and split the world into spheres of influence,” Ash said.
He also believes Trump has an obsession with the Western Hemisphere.
“His ideas about Greenland, Canada, Panama, and Mexico, and the United States as the dominant power in the region, go hand in hand with his view of China in Asia and Russia in Eurasia. This way of thinking is real,” the political scientist said.
Ash added that this mindset is where the fundamental difference lies.
“Europe today is very different from what it was in 1945 during the Yalta meeting. Back then, the continent was devastated, exhausted, and powerless. Today, we have the most united, richest, and, in many ways, the most influential Europe in history. The combined economies of the European Union are at least twelve times larger than Russia’s. We also invest heavily in defense. If Europe shows enough political will, it can stop this scenario from becoming reality,” he said.
The political scientist also stressed that Putin holds full control over Russia, while Trump does not have similar power in the United States.
“Even within his own Republican Party, many do not support this approach, let alone members of other political groups. So yes, the threat exists. These three leaders want to make this vision a reality, but we have every reason and opportunity to stop it,” Ash concluded.
