Trump’s actions at G7 weaken group’s anti-Russian stance — political scientist
Donald Trump’s stance at the Group of Seven (G7) summit signals an attempt to undermine the group’s anti-Russian unity, creating new challenges for Ukraine’s European allies
Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman and political scientist Oleksandr Antoniuk shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“Donald Trump’s démarche is a tactic aimed at disrupting the G7’s anti-Russian unity. Everything else is just obvious conclusions for the remaining six. We understand that there is now a disruptive element within the G7, a destructive stance. Given this reality, it’s necessary to form alliances of smaller states and influence, in particular, the positions of those representing the European side of the G7. After all, the conflict with Macron also reflects this destructive stance,” Antoniuk said.
According to the political scientist, even a poor outcome — or one that delays resolving the issue “here and now” — is still an outcome and, at the same time, a window of opportunity for Ukraine.
“Although we understand that every day brings risks, terror, and the killing of our civilians, the arguments are ultimately in our favor, because Europe is increasingly realizing that the next risks will directly affect them. It’s not just about warfare, but also about the use of hybrid tools to trigger crises in various states. So the fact that we haven’t achieved the desired result yet only further shows that the global situation is gaining momentum,” Antoniuk emphasized.
