Trump slams Zelenskyy's Crimea stance as "harmful" to Russia negotiations
U.S. President Donald Trump said that the situation for Ukraine is dire. According to him, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement that Kyiv does not recognize the occupation of Crimea is harmful to negotiations with the Russians
Trump wrote about this on the social network TruthSocial.
"This statement is very harmful to the Peace Negotiations with Russia in that Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion. Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian Territory but, if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired?" the Trump wrote.
According to him, such statements by Zelenskyy "complicate the resolution of the war."
"The situation for Ukraine is dire — He can have Peace or he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country. I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever. The statement made by Zelenskyy today will do nothing but prolong the 'killing field,'" he added.
President Trump also noted that "We are very close" to a ceasefire agreement, and "the man with 'no cards to play' should now, finally, GET IT DONE."
- On April 23, representatives of Ukraine, the U.S., the United Kingdom, and France were supposed to hold negotiations in London regarding a possible ceasefire agreement with Russia.
- The Washington Post later reported that the U.S. is proposing to recognize annexed Crimea as Russian, as well as to freeze the front line.
- Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine does not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea, commenting on media reports that the U.S. plans to propose this on April 23 in London.
