He announced this at a meeting of the U.S. Cabinet.

"I personally asked President Putin not to fire on Kyiv and the cities and towns for a week during this ... extraordinary cold."

Trump added that Putin has "agreed to that," but there was no confirmation of that from Russia. According to Trump: "A lot of people said, 'Don't waste the call. You're not going to get that.' And he did it. And we're very happy that they did it."

Trump also added that "on top of everything else—it's not what they need, missiles coming into their cities."

  • Earlier, the Kremlin refused to comment on the topic of an alleged "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, which so-called Russian military bloggers began writing about.
