Donald Trump has shown that today the U.S. is not capable of successfully waging a trade war with any economically stable country in the world

Executive Director of the Institute of World Policy Yevhen Mahda said this on Espreso TV.

“The issue is that the volume of trade between the U.S. and Russia is very small in the global context. It amounts to over $3.5 billion, which is a very modest figure overall. And the secondary sanctions Donald Trump is talking about are essentially a trade war. Throughout his presidency, he never had a successful trade war. If a country is at least somewhat powerful, it has its own approaches and acts more actively in confronting the U.S. In other words, Trump has effectively shown that the world is multipolar and the U.S. no longer dominates it,” Mahda explained.

The political analyst expressed doubts that European countries could send their own troops to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire along the front line.

“I am extremely skeptical that as many as eight European countries are ready to send their troops to Ukraine as part of guarantees for Kyiv. We have been hearing about the readiness to send troops since the very beginning of the so-called ‘coalition of the willing.’ In fact, it is a ‘coalition of the willing to promise.’ They are very eager to make promises, focusing on their own voters. However, I do not believe in such a scenario, and there are several reasons for this. In particular, if troops were deployed and one or a group of NATO soldiers were killed here, it would trigger a political crisis in the countries from which those servicemen came. Secondly, Russia would not agree to it. We understand that any peacekeepers must be approved by the other side of the conflict,” he added.

  • On August 18, White House trade and manufacturing advisor Peter Navarro emphasized that if India wants to be treated as a strategic partner of the U.S., it should stop buying Russian oil.
