
Top Ukrainian, U.S. officials meet in Turkey to discuss peace efforts
On the night of May 14–15, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Turkey
Andrii Sybiha announced his meeting with Marco Rubio on the social media platform X.
The meeting, which took place in Antalya, Turkey, was also attended by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.
“I met with Secretary Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham in Antalya to share President Zelenskyy’s vision of further peace efforts and coordinate positions during this critical week. We discussed in detail the logic of further steps and shared our approaches,” the statement said.
Sybiha reaffirmed Ukraine’s strong and consistent commitment to President Donald Trump’s peace efforts. The Foreign Minister also thanked the United States for its involvement in the peace process.
“We are ready to advance our cooperation in a constructive and mutually beneficial manner. It is critical that Russia reciprocate Ukraine's constructive steps. So far, it has not. Moscow must understand that rejecting peace comes at a cost,” Sybiha added.
- On May 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed he will visit Turkey on May 15 to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He also said he is ready to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
- On the evening of May 14, Putin chose who would represent Russia in the negotiations in Istanbul. Shortly after, it was announced that U.S. President Donald Trump would not be present at the talks between Ukraine and Russia.
