Slovak FM calls on West to forgive Russia and resume cooperation. Ukraine responds
Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár has stated that the war in Ukraine can only be ended through diplomacy and cooperation with Russia. According to him, Russia can be “forgiven for everything that happened”
He said this on air during a broadcast by Slovak outlet STVR.
According to the Slovak minister, the war between Russia and Ukraine has no military solution, so, he said, it is necessary to return to respecting international law and seek dialogue with Russia.
To achieve this, the Slovak Foreign Minister suggested that Western countries and Russia may have to forgive everything that happened.
“Let’s return to respecting international law and look for ways to communicate with Russia. The West must find a way to cooperate with Russia. And maybe even forgive everything that happened,” Blanár said.
Ukraine’s response
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha later responded to the Slovak minister’s remarks.
“Russia's sense of impunity is the root cause of its crimes. It's naive to expect a criminal to stop if their crime is forgiven instead of punished. Russia will hit your other cheek as well. And those who have lost no one in this war have no right to make such statements,” he wrote on social network X.
