Negotiations on Ukraine's accession to EU are underway - Vice Prime Minister Stefanishyna
Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice, says that discussions about Ukraine joining the EU are in progress, including talks on integrating into the internal market
She said this during an hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada, reports Espreso correspondent Kateryna Halko.
"We are currently negotiating the 12th consecutive chapter on the internal market. I can say that we are already joining the EU. When this process is completed, it will definitely be completed for all 10 countries by 2030," Stefanishyna said.
According to her, the rule of law is a key element of Ukraine's future membership in the EU.
"And the biggest task before me is that Ukraine has to present roadmaps in the area of the rule of law. In our understanding, these roadmaps will include the abandonment of competitions and the appointment of international experts to integrity assessment positions as a sign that we have built a stable, strong and democratic system of state institutions. We have to ensure this," explained the Minister of Justice.
Stefanishyna emphasized that Ukraine is "joining the EU right now.”
"Negotiating delegations consist of more than 100 Ukrainian MPs and government officials. And today we are already making decisions on how we are joining the EU in each area that will be the subject of the EU agreement," she emphasized.
- In October, Olha Stefanishyna said that there are some unfriendly countries that downplay Ukraine's progress toward the EU, but she is confident that Ukraine will be able to reach a good political decision on accession in December.
