Nearly a third of voters in pro-Russian Transnistria back President Sandu's party
In the unrecognized Transnistria, all conditions were created for those who wanted to vote in the parliamentary elections in Moldova
Dmytro Lekartsev, the head of the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova, stated this on Espreso TV.
"Transnistrians voted. They had 12 polling stations. For five of them, the address was changed on the last day. Law enforcement had information that provocations were planned there, and they simply changed the addresses where people could vote," he said.
The expert emphasized that, in general, people had the opportunity to vote.
"There were some queues on the bridges, but whoever wanted to vote, voted. Approximately, if I'm not mistaken, 12,000 Transnistrians with Moldovan citizenship voted. The majority of these votes went to the Patriotic Bloc with about 51%, but at the same time, almost 30% also voted for the Action and Solidarity party," Lekartsev explained.
In his opinion, this "Transnistria card" is only used by representatives of the pro-Russian bloc.
"'As if the right to vote was taken away from Transnistria.' No one took anything away; all conditions were created, and those who wanted to vote, did. According to various experts, the number of voters who participated is more or less the same as the number that always voted there before 2014. That is, if you take away all the tools that Russia tried to use—I mean the organized transportation of voters, the financing of all these networks—then, in principle, we see that the people of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of where they are, Gagauzia, or the north of Moldova, all want a normal, peaceful, stable life, and for Moldova to develop. And this is what they demonstrated in their choice, which yesterday clearly showed that Moldova is continuing its movement towards the European Union, together with Ukraine," the expert concluded.
In the parliamentary elections in Moldova, the pro-European PAS party (50%) defeated the pro-Russian bloc of communists and socialists (24%).
