Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit Austria in mid-June, a move that has already provoked backlash from the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) — even before any official confirmation

According to Heute, Kronen Zeitung, and Der Standard, citing unnamed sources, Zelenskyy's visit is scheduled for June 16. During his trip, he is reportedly set to meet with top Austrian officials, including Chancellor Christian Stocker and Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.

The Austrian government has not confirmed the visit or released any further details.

Nevertheless, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl has already condemned the anticipated visit, calling it a "foreign policy blunder" that could make Austria "a potential target in the event of an escalation."

"This visit is yet another breach in Austria's tradition of neutrality and part of a series of misguided neutrality policies in recent years," Kickl stated. "As a neutral country, Austria should act as a peacemaker and mediator — not take sides in war."

If confirmed, this would mark Zelenskyyy's first visit to Austria since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. In March 2023, he addressed the Austrian parliament via video link.

Zelenskyy also met Austrian Chancellor Stocker in person earlier this year, during a summit in Brussels.
