Many EU politicians see Ukraine ceasefire as done deal — Espreso correspondent from Brussels
Espreso correspondent Tetiana Vysotska says that the rhetoric regarding Ukraine’s victory has changed within the European Union
She said this on the Espreso TV channel.
“After yesterday’s statements by the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the mood and tone of statements have shifted. In other words, defense ministers in Brussels have become more diplomatic in their remarks. Previously, there was full support for Ukraine, and just a few weeks ago, the rhetoric was that Ukraine must win. Now, everyone is talking about what will happen after the ceasefire. Many politicians representing European countries are now referring to a ceasefire as something almost decided,” Vysotska emphasized.
According to the Espreso correspondent, discussions within the EU have also turned to the need for investments in Ukraine once a ceasefire is established.
“For instance, the Polish Minister of Defense stated that Poland will not send troops to Ukraine, as by defending its own borders, it also protects NATO’s borders, which is sufficient. However, Poland will support Ukraine by investing in its recovery. This shows that the unity that existed before the U.S. revealed its true position and began proposing its own negotiation conditions with Putin is no longer there,” Vysotska highlighted.
- Earlier, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that Kyiv’s NATO membership and the restoration of Ukraine’s 2014 borders are not realistic outcomes.
