Macron outlines security guarantees for Ukraine following ceasefire
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that after a peace agreement is signed, European leaders will continue to provide support for Ukraine
He said this in an interview with TF1.
"After the peace agreement is signed (...) the first security guarantee is a strong Ukrainian army, which we are helping to build. It will need a lot of equipment, and we will continue to invest," said Emmanuel Macron.
At the same time, he stressed that since Ukraine will not be joining NATO, partner countries are offering their forces "far from the front line, in joint operations."
"This will allow us to show our solidarity and be reliable in deterring Russia from launching another attack," the French president assured.
In addition, Macron emphasized that Russian frozen assets should be used to rebuild Ukraine after a peace agreement is signed. He added that spending them now "would not be a very good idea": "At the moment, there is no legal framework for that."
- French President Emmanuel Macron called Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin’s proposal to resume talks on ending the war with Ukraine in Turkey insufficient. In his opinion, a meeting in Istanbul is possible only if there is a ceasefire.
