Lithuanian military chief weighs sending peacekeepers to Ukraine

“If you ask whether Lithuania could send troops to Ukraine, yes, we would probably consider it. A discussion will be held, and I believe we must also take responsibility for stability in Europe,” the general stated.
The publication recalls that Western countries have been discussing the possibility of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine for several months if Kyiv and Moscow agree on a ceasefire. Ukraine hopes that the deployment of foreign peacekeepers will serve as a security guarantee to prevent Russia from regrouping and launching another attack.
- On January 22, President Zelenskyy said that at least 200,000 peacekeepers would be needed to secure Ukraine after hostilities cease.
- German chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz believes that for Germany to participate in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, an international mandate and Russia’s consent would be required.
