Kyiv challenges reports that U.S. dismisses pre-war border discussions
Senior U.S. officials have stated they “do not want to hear” any requests from Ukraine regarding the restoration of the country’s borders to their 2014 or 2022 status. The Center for Countering Disinformation denied these claims
Sky News reported the information.
International correspondent Alex Rossi said that during negotiations in Saudi Arabia, the U.S. is still waiting to see what concessions Kyiv is willing to make.
“It looks like the Ukrainians are going to have to make some fairly painful concessions, but the hope is that when these talks finish, we will see and understand what the shape of a ceasefire looks like,” he added.
According to the journalist, in private conversations, American officials said they “do not want to hear” about any Ukrainian demands to return to the country’s pre-2014 borders (before Russia’s annexation of Crimea) or pre-2022 borders (before Moscow’s full-scale invasion).
Center for Countering Disinformation’s response
The head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, stated that the Sky News information is not accurate.
“Information is being spread online, citing foreign sources, claiming that during the negotiation process in Saudi Arabia, the issue of Ukraine potentially returning to its borders before the start of Russian military aggression was excluded,” the statement says.
- U.S. President Donald Trump commented that neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian sides “have the cards” to conduct negotiations. He insists on “reaching a deal and stopping the killings.”
