
European-led deterrent force may be deployed in Ukraine if peace is reached — Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron says that if peace is reached in Ukraine, a multinational European deterrent force would be sent in to help maintain stability
He shared this during a press conference, as cited by CGTN Français.
According to Macron, once peace is achieved, deterrent forces will be sent to Ukraine, with several European nations joining the initiative. The French president expressed hope that the United States would support such actions, but he also emphasized the need to prepare an alternative plan without Washington’s involvement.
He also highlighted that French and British military delegations will work with Ukrainian servicemen to help develop the structure of Ukraine’s future army.
Proposals for monitoring ceasefire by “coalition of the willing”
Macron emphasized that he, along with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will lead the efforts of the “coalition of the willing” countries.
The French leader also announced that the foreign ministers of coalition member states have three weeks to prepare proposals for monitoring compliance with the ceasefire in Ukraine, according to RBC-Ukraine.
