Congresswoman Spartz says Ukrainians should accept losing territory. Ukraine responds
Congresswoman Victoria Spartz, who was born and raised in the Chernihiv region, believes that Ukrainians must come to terms with the loss of territory to Russia
She stated this in an interview with The Telegraph.
Spartz also urged Ukrainian citizens not to vote for Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the next presidential election.
“I don’t understand how Ukrainians can demand to keep the territory. If they were winning the war, it would be a completely different situation,” she said.
The publication recalls that after a dispute between Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, Spartz accused the Ukrainian president of having allegedly done a “disservice to the Ukrainian people” and “insulted the American president.”
The congresswoman called on Ukrainians to vote against Zelenskyy in the upcoming presidential elections. In her view, “if they elect him, they will lose the rest of the country.”
The media notes that Spartz lived in Ukraine for 22 years, but never presents herself as Ukrainian. She refers to Ukrainians as “they” and considers herself first and foremost a U.S. citizen.
“My number one job as an American congresswoman is to protect America’s interests,” the politician asserts.
Last year, she voted against a $61 billion aid package, accusing Zelenskyy of corruption.
Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s reaction
Spokesperson for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi, commented on the statement made by Chernihiv native Victoria Spartz:
“Unlike Victoria, all of our land has always been and will always remain Ukrainian,” Tykhyi wrote on X.
- In November 2024, Spartz said: “If Ukraine wants to win the war against Russia, which has many people and doesn’t care how many of them die, the whole country needs to be mobilized.”
