China signals willingness to join international efforts for long-term peace in Ukraine
China has announced its support for the proposal from Kyiv, the U.S., and Europe for a 30-day ceasefire. Beijing is also ready to work with the international community to achieve peace in Ukraine
This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, according to Ukrinform.
"Regarding the 'Ukrainian crisis' (Russia's war against Ukraine – ed.), China's position is consistent and clear. We believe all efforts should be aimed at achieving peace… We have always maintained and continue to insist that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable solution to the 'crisis'," he said.
At the same time, the spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry commented on U.S. President Donald Trump's statement that ending Russia's war against Ukraine requires the involvement of major powers, including Turkey and China.
"China is ready, taking into account the wishes of the parties concerned, to cooperate with the international community and continue to play a constructive role in resolving the 'crisis' and achieving long-term peace," Jian emphasized.
- In a nighttime address on May 11, Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed he was ready for direct talks with Ukraine in Turkey next week, but he dismissed the idea of a 30-day truce. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would keep working with both sides and predicted that the coming week would be “great.”
- Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Andriy Yermak commented on the possibility of holding negotiations with Russia in Istanbul, stressing that while Ukraine is open to dialogue, it will not back down from its demand for a 30-day ceasefire.
