According to Correio Braziliense, he emphasized that Brazil will maintain neutrality in the war.
He explained that Brazil cannot side with either Ukraine or Russia and added that those seeking dialogue with Brazil should have reached out before the war began.
“It is important for Brazil to stay away from this conflict and advocate for a peaceful resolution. Those who want to talk to us now could have done so before the war started,” the Brazilian president said.
While he condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stressed Brazil’s focus on a “peaceful resolution of the conflict.”
- On May 23, Brazil and China signed an agreement to address the war between Russia and Ukraine, calling for political negotiations to achieve peace. Their plan aims to prevent the war from spreading and to avoid escalation by any party.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the proposal, calling it a harmful political move that had not been agreed with Kyiv.
