With scorched earth tactics, Russia admits that it is unable to hold occupied territories — Kyslytsya
Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsya, said that by blowing up the Kakhovka HPP, the Russians proved that they are not capable of holding the temporarily occupied territories
Kyslytsia stated this during the meeting of the UN Security Council, reports Espreso.
“The Russian regime launched a bomb of mass destruction against the environment. This is an act of terrorism against critical infrastructure, against Ukraine. By employing scorched earth tactics, the Russian occupiers acknowledged that they have no rightful claim to this territory and are unable to maintain control,” he said.
He emphasized that, similar to previous instances such as the crimes in Mariupol, Buchia, and Izyum, the Russian Federation denies its involvement in the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP.
"This is yet another example of the genocide committed against the Ukrainian people. The Kremlin's response to the call for peace talks is evident in this act. Russia must be neutralized, not appeased," emphasized Kyslytsya.
He also provided specific details, stating that 11 out of the dam's 28 sections were destroyed as a result of the explosion.
Kyslytsya stated that the water level near Kherson had risen by 3.24 meters as of the evening, and in the coming 3-5 days, the consequences would be much more severe. He emphasized that the temporarily occupied territories on the left bank of the Dnipro in the Kherson region, controlled by the Russian Federation, would be particularly affected.
Kyslytsya assured that there is currently no immediate threat to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and that the situation remains under control.
