Why Russian aircraft fail to dominate Ukrainian skies - British intelligence

The Russian Air Force has failed to establish air control during its war against Ukraine due to insufficiently qualified pilots.

The British Defense Ministry shared its report on Twitter.

According to British intelligence, the Russian Air Force has shown low results in Ukraine. Their inability to consistently control the sky is one of the most important factors in the very limited success of the Russian campaign. Russian forces can't gain a complete advantage in the air and act in a dangerous style, rarely penetrating the line of contact.

Some of the main reasons for these difficulties resonate with the reasons for the failures of the Russian ground forces.  For many years, much of Russia's air combat training was likely to be aimed at impressing senior officials.

"While Russia has an impressive roster of relatively modern and capable combat jets, the air force has also almost certainly failed to develop the institutional culture and skill-sets required for its personnel to meet Russia's aspiration of delivering a more Western-style modern air campaign. This has led to a greater than planned weight of effort falling to ground troops, who are becoming exhausted; and on advanced cruise missiles, stocks of which are likely running low," the UK intelligence added.
