The administration of US President Donald Trump hopes to secure a large-scale ceasefire in the coming weeks. The White House aims to conclude a ceasefire agreement by April 20, which falls on Easter this year. However, the US understands that differing positions from both sides could complicate the negotiation process.
On March 21, Trump stated that a complete ceasefire would be achieved soon. However, Europe is concerned that his push for a quick resolution could lead to concessions to Moscow, potentially making Ukraine vulnerable to future attacks.
Additionally, European officials are doubtful that Trump will exert serious pressure on Russia if the Kremlin resists a peace deal.
- Earlier, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader, reported that talks between Russian and US delegations were set to take place in Riyadh on Monday, March 24.
- Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a meeting of Ukrainian and American technical teams in Saudi Arabia on March 24.
- Meanwhile, special representative Keith Kellogg stated that the US plans to hold separate meetings with Ukrainian and Russian representatives in Saudi Arabia, attempting to arrange indirect negotiations.
- Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyi said that on Monday, March 24, the Ukrainian delegation would meet with the American delegation in Saudi Arabia, ruling out the possibility of talks with the Russians.
