What's going on between Xi Jinping and Putin is similar to developments in US Congress - diplomat Bryza
Former US Assistant Secretary of State, former Director for European and Eurasian Affairs at the US National Security Council Matthew Bryza believes China is interested in weakening the United States, so it will continue to support Russia
He expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV channel
"Xi Jinping is trying to strengthen his partnership with Putin to weaken the United States globally. What is happening between Xi Jinping and Putin is similar to what is happening in the US Congress with the Republicans. It is precisely because Biden wants this support for Ukraine that extreme Republicans are opposed. Likewise, Xi Jinping, who would welcome an end to the war, wants to undermine US leadership and Biden's leadership in the world. That's why he's going to stay with Putin," Bryza said.
The diplomat emphasized that Xi Jinping, like Erdogan, benefits from Russia's war against Ukraine.
"Having said that, I believe that Xi Jinping, like Erdogan in Turkey, would like the war to end, but for now he is very happy to cooperate with Putin rather than push him to negotiate. Instead, he is ready to push Ukraine to negotiate, so that it would give up its sovereign territory, while weakening the United States. Unfortunately, this is the case," he added.
