Ukraine secures 40 high-tech combat vehicles in major European defense deal
A contract worth SEK 25 billion has been signed for the procurement of 205 advanced combat vehicles, with allocations planned for Denmark, Sweden, and Ukraine
This is reported on the government website of Sweden.
The Defence Materiel Administration and the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation have jointly signed a deal with BAE Systems Hägglunds for the purchase of 205 CV9035 MKIIIC combat vehicles.
Under the agreement, Denmark will receive 115 vehicles, while Sweden will acquire 50 to replace those previously sent to Ukraine. Additionally, 40 units will be newly manufactured for Ukraine, funded by earlier contributions from both nations. The total value of the contract amounts to SEK 25 billion.
“These investments strengthen Sweden's defence industry, contributing to both national and collective security in Europe, particularly in Ukraine,” remarked Sweden’s Defence Minister Pål Jonson.
The CV90, noted for its robust protection and ability to save lives even in direct hits, has proven highly effective in Ukraine. The latest MkIIIC variant features advanced turret technology, enhanced mobility, and increased situational awareness, making it a formidable asset in modern combat.
Currently, 10 countries, including Denmark, Sweden, Ukraine, and others, operate the CV90 system. Sweden's earlier donation of 50 vehicles to Ukraine as part of its tenth aid package is now supplemented by the production of 40 new units under a separate initiative.
