Zelenskyy reported this on his Telegram channel.
“Together with Sweden, Ukraine will significantly expand its combat aviation. This is an ambitious task, and it must be fulfilled. Now comes a historic step — an agreement with Sweden on Gripen fighter jets, and it’s a great choice,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, Ukraine expects to receive about 150 aircraft, with the first Gripens potentially arriving as early as next year.
“Gripen for Ukraine is part of our security guarantees — Air Forces capable of fully protecting our skies. Such a large-scale aviation deal has never happened for Ukraine before. It’s a historic achievement, and we are working to make it happen,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
- On October 22, it was reported that Ukraine and Sweden agreed to launch an extensive program to purchase up to 150 modern JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jets for Ukraine’s Air Force.
