At a meeting in Marburg on February 2, Olaf Scholz called the war in Ukraine "a long-conceived plan to expand the territory of the Russian Federation by force."
Scholz emphasized that Germany will make every effort to avoid escalation that will lead to war between Russia and NATO.
"A war between NATO and Russia would be a terrible event. We are responsible for ensuring that such an escalation does not happen," the German Chancellor said.
