Washington does everything possible to isolate Russia in UN Security Council - Linda Thomas-Greenfield
The US representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield says that Washington has done everything possible to isolate Russia in the UN Security Council
This is stated on the official website of the President of Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Permanent Representative of the US to the United Nations, in Kyiv.
The head of state thanked the entire American people for their strong support of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
“It is important that this support is fully manifested at the UN as well. Given the continuation of Russia's missile terror, our first priority is the urgent creation of an air shield over Ukraine,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The US delegation was briefed on the situation at the front and the escalation of Russian air terror against critical civilian infrastructure of Ukraine using cruise missiles and Iranian drones. It was emphasized separately that targeted Russian attacks damaged almost 40% of energy infrastructure facilities, as a result of which more than 4.5 million consumers remain without electricity in Ukraine.
It is reported that the parties emphasized the need for the United Nations to take a number of "immediate steps":
-
urgent dispatch to Ukraine of a mission of UN experts to investigate Iran's supply of drones to Russia;
-
sending competent representatives of the UN to the objects of critical infrastructure of Ukraine to assess the destruction and the need for restoration;
-
maximum involvement of UN capabilities in the restoration of Ukrainian energy.
“It is also necessary to limit the membership and privileges of the terrorist state in the IAEA. There is a clear and understandable algorithm for this,” the president said.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that despite the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, Ukraine is ready to remain the guarantor of global food security.
“Ukraine saves the world” - under this slogan we will provide assistance to the poorest. The first ship within the initiative (grain agreement- ed.) should depart soon. We offer the countries of the world to join this important undertaking,” Zelenskyy added.
At a briefing in the Media Center, the US representative to the UN, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that the Russian Federation heard clearly and loudly from the world that what they are doing is unacceptable, noting that although Russia has the right of veto, they cannot hide behind it from condemnation.
“Is it realistic to hold Russia accountable? Yes, and we've done everything we can to isolate Russia in the Security Council, and we've isolated it in the General Assembly. And even though they have a veto, they'll never be able to veto our condemnation, our votes. We have 141 votes condemning Russia in the General Assembly, and we have 143 votes condemning their annexation,” the US representative to the UN said.
