Vucic refused to promise that Serbia would not impose sanctions against Russia and admitted that Belgrade's decision not to join European sanctions against Russia had led to "tough [economic] circumstances" for Serbia.
He also said that he would assess "when we are in a deadlock and when our policy has to change"
At the same time, Serbian Economy Minister Rade Basta called on the Serbian government to impose sanctions against Russia and said that Serbia was paying a "high price" for not doing so on March 14.
Earlier, Politico reported that Vucic seems to be reconsidering Serbia's close ties with Russia. The president's decision is partly due to the recruitment and subversive activities of the Wagner PMC in Serbia and an understanding of the international economic and information damage that Putin's invasion of Ukraine has caused.
Ukraine's diplomats have begun work on organizing a meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic.
