Zelenskyy: Ukrainian forces gradually pushing back Russian troops in Sumy region
Ukrainian Defense Forces are gradually pushing back Russian troops in the Sumy region border areas. Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported on the current needs of the military
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this in his evening address on June 12.
"Today, there was a report from Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi – the front and primarily the Pokrovsk direction, the Kursk operation, the Sumy region border areas. Our units in the Sumy region are gradually pushing back the invaders," he said.
The President thanked everyone who is participating in these operations, especially in the difficult areas of the front.
He also recalled that the return of Ukrainians from captivity is ongoing — the third stage of the exchange, agreed upon in Istanbul, has already taken place. Among those released are those who have been in captivity since 2022, as well as those who were missing. The President emphasized the importance of detailed verification of each name.
"There was a report from Defense Minister Umerov – we discussed with him certain details of all negotiation activity. We also discussed the issue of financing our defense and defense production in Ukraine," the head of state said.
In parallel, according to Zelenskyy, efforts are focused on increasing pressure on Russia through sanctions, as well as preparing for international meetings.
"Today, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius was in Kyiv on a visit. We talked specifically about what can strengthen Ukrainian positions and provide more protection for our cities, our Ukrainian communities. I am grateful to Germany – Chancellor Merz, Minister Pistorius, the entire political class of Germany, and the society that feels what is being decided now and is ready to help further," the President noted.
A few days ago, DeepState wrote that Russia is making progress in the Sumy region. In particular, the Russian enemy advanced near Yablunivka and Yunakivka in the Sumy region.
