Zelenskyy: Ukraine–U.S. minerals deal is equal partnership
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the mineral resources agreement signed with the United States underwent significant changes during its preparation. It is now an equal partnership
The head of state made this statement during his evening address on May 1.
The Ukrainian government presented the President with a report on the new economic partnership agreement with the United States, which has already been signed and will soon be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for ratification.
"The agreement changed significantly during its preparation. It is now truly an equal agreement that creates opportunities for substantial investments in Ukraine — and not just that — but also for a major modernization of Ukraine’s industries and, just as importantly, modernization of legal practices in our country," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, the cooperation provides mutually beneficial terms: both Ukraine and the United States will have the opportunity to generate profit through the partnership.
The President emphasized that the agreement was made possible through the efforts of First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and various government ministries.
He also noted that the first understandings regarding the agreement were reached during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Vatican.
"We spoke with the President of the United States, with Donald Trump, about our readiness to conclude the agreement — we spoke during a meeting in the Vatican. In fact, we are now seeing the first result of the Vatican meeting, which truly makes it historic," Zelenskyy wrote.
On April 30, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement to establish the Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund.
