Zelenskyy hopes U.S. pressure will be enough to force Russia to end war after talks in Jeddah
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was briefed by the Ukrainian delegation on their negotiations with the United States in Saudi Arabia
Zelenskyy announced this on Telegram.
“It is good that the conversation was as constructive as possible. Ukraine is determined to move quickly toward peace, and we are ready to do our part to create all the conditions for a reliable, lasting, and dignified peace. The teams did a great job: defense assistance and intelligence support were restored,” the President of Ukraine emphasized.
He added that Ukrainian representatives informed the American side about Ukraine’s key positions.
“Ukraine was ready for silence in the sky and at sea, but the American side proposed silence on land as well. Ukraine accepts this proposal. The important issue is control, and we are grateful to the American side for its willingness to organize the technical aspects of monitoring,” the head of state noted.
He also mentioned that the parties discussed the need to ensure security, cooperation with European partners, and further joint steps.
“Unfortunately, for more than a day now, the world has not heard a substantive response from Russia regarding the proposals made. This once again confirms that it is Russia that seeks to continue the war and is trying to delay the arrival of peace as much as possible. We hope that U.S. pressure will be sufficient to force Russia to end the war,” Zelenskyy said.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian team is ready to continue working constructively with all partners in America, Europe, and other parts of the world who are striving to help bring peace closer.
- On March 11, a meeting between the Ukrainian and American delegations took place in Jeddah, during which Kyiv agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, and the U.S. agreed to resume intelligence sharing and security assistance.
