Zelenskyy, Erdogan discuss potential meeting with Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and U.S. leaders
On May 30, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The leaders discussed the possibility of organizing a meeting at the level of leaders from Ukraine, the US, Russia, and Turkey
Zelenskyy wrote about this on Telegram:
“We discussed a potential upcoming meeting in Istanbul and under what conditions Ukraine is ready to participate in it. We both agree that this meeting cannot and should not be meaningless. We also discussed the possibility of holding a four-way meeting at the level of leaders from Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and the United States,” he noted.
Zelenskyy and Erdogan also discussed the first negotiations held in Istanbul.
“An exchange of prisoners was an important achievement, but unfortunately, it was the only one. There must be a ceasefire to move toward peace. We must stop the killing of people,” the President added.
During the conversation, the leaders also raised the issue of Turkey's participation in Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit.
- Additionally, on the evening of May 30, Zelenskyy mentioned that neither Ukraine nor Turkey had received a ‘memorandum’ from the Russian side ahead of the second round of negotiations in Istanbul.
