Ukraine declares state of emergency in energy sector amid Russian attacks — Zelenskyy
Ukraine has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector due to the consequences of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and deteriorating weather conditions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this.
"The consequences of the strikes and worsening weather conditions are severe. Repair crews, energy companies, utility services, and the State Emergency Service are working around the clock to restore electricity and heat supply. Many issues require urgent resolution," Zelenskyy stated.
A permanent coordination headquarters will be established in the capital to manage the situation. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has been appointed to lead efforts supporting the population and addressing practical matters.
The Cabinet of Ministers is also intensifying cooperation with international partners to obtain equipment and additional support.
"The government will ensure maximum deregulation of all processes for connecting backup energy equipment to the grid during this particular situation. We are also working to significantly increase electricity imports to Ukraine," Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
As of January 14, about 400 apartment buildings in Kyiv remain without heating.
