The New York Times reported, citing a source.
After meeting with European leaders at the White House on August 18, Trump called Putin, and they discussed the possibility of a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a trilateral dialogue among the leaders.
According to the paper’s source, the Kremlin chief proposed to the U.S. president that they meet in Moscow, an idea he had also voiced during the Alaska summit.
“European leaders were frightened by that scenario, but Mr. Trump politely declined Mr. Putin,” the source said.
During the call with the U.S. president, Putin also suggested holding a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Russian capital.
