Putin orders 'safe corridors' for journalists to frontline cities. Ukraine's MFA reacts
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian military to "ensure unhindered passage for foreign journalists" to Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Kupiansk. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has urged not to trust this
The Russian Defense Ministry stated this.
They stated that, if necessary, the Russian army is "prepared to cease hostilities for 5-6 hours in the specified areas." At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry adds that this is possible with security guarantees "for both the journalists and the Russian military."
"The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has received an order (...) to ensure the unhindered passage of foreign journalists, including Ukrainian ones (...) to visit the areas where Ukrainian troops are blocked in Krasnoarmiysk (Pokrovsk), Dymytrov (Myrnohrad), and Kupiansk," the Russians wrote.
Ukraine's reaction
"Frankly, I do not recommend that any reporters trust any of Putin's proposals for "corridors" in the warzone. I saw firsthand how such proposals play out—on August 29, 2014, in Ilovaysk. Putin's only goal is to prolong the war," wrote MFA spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi.
He recalled that the Kremlin leader has never kept his promises of a ceasefire.
"I also remind all media that any visits to Russian-occupied territory without Ukraine's permission are a violation of our legislation and international law. They will have long-term reputational and legal consequences. We are watching closely," stated Tykhyi.
On October 30, the Myrnohrad Military Civilian Administration stated that the enemy is trying to infiltrate the city, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding them back and preventing them from gaining a foothold.
