Use of tactical nuclear weapons by Russians is unlikely, because it does not give them any advantages - General Hodges

Former commander of the US Ground Forces on the European continent, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, is convinced that the US will be forced to respond to the use of tactical nuclear weapons by Russia, because China, Iran and North Korea are closely watching this

He expressed this opinion on Espreso.

"As for tactical nuclear weapons, the Russians have thousands of such missiles. But I still think it is unlikely that tactical nuclear weapons will be used, because they do not give them any advantages, especially on the battlefield. I think the Kremlin knows this. President Biden made it clear, if Russia uses tactical nuclear weapons, it will be impossible for the US not to respond. Besides, China, Iran and North Korea are watching, so the US will be forced to respond," the general explained.

Ben Hodges pointed out that no one knows if it will be a nuclear response or if it could be a combination of conventional and unconventional steps, it is clear that it will be catastrophic, the Kremlin knows about it.

"In my opinion, the people around Putin realize that if they have any hope for the future after this war, they must stop Putin from using nuclear weapons. It is known that there are serious problems inside the Kremlin. Ordinary people are also unhappy with Putin's war, but I don't know what courses of action these different groups see for themselves. Partial mobilization is the first manifestation of those big differences of opinion in the Kremlin about where to move now," Hodges noted.
