U.S. Vice President Vance sees “interesting developments” in Russia-Ukraine talks
U.S. Vice President JD Vance remains "optimistic" about the potential to end the Russia-Ukraine war, despite ongoing negotiations
Reuters reported the information.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine on Friday during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome.
This marked their second meeting in 24 hours. Vance had seen Meloni in Washington on Thursday, and they had since traveled to Italy ahead of the Easter holidays.
“I want to update the prime minister on some of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine ... even in the past 24 hours, we think we have some interesting things to report on,” Vance told reporters alongside Meloni.
“Since there are the negotiations, I won’t prejudge them, but we do feel optimistic that we can hopefully bring this war, this very brutal war, to a close,” he added.
- Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had stated that U.S. President Donald Trump would abandon efforts to broker a Russia-Ukraine peace deal within days unless there were clear signs that a deal could be reached.
