US to furnish Ukraine with additional USD 4.5 billion in aid
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced it is allocating an additional USD 4.5 billion to the Ukrainian government through the mechanism of the World Bank
Reuters shared the statement
USAID funding will go to the Ukrainian government in tranches. The first of them in the amount of $3 billion is expected already this month.
US funds should help the Ukrainian government provide social and financial assistance to the population, children with disabilities, and millions of internally displaced persons.
USAID noted that the US budget support allowed the government of Ukraine to support the supply of gas and electricity to hospitals, schools and other critical infrastructure and to deliver urgently needed humanitarian goods to citizens. The funds were also used to pay doctors, teachers, and other budget workers.
Previous tranches of aid to Ukraine from the agency amounted to $1.3 billion in June and $1.7 billion in July. Thus, the total support of the budget of Ukraine by the USA since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation will amount to $8.5 billion.
USAID emphasized that the World Bank, along with third-party oversight bodies, implemented "robust safeguards" to ensure that the funds will be channeled as intended.
