US Senate Majority Leader schedules vote on aid to Ukraine: Zelenskyy will address Congress on eve

US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has scheduled the first vote on a bill proposed by Joe Biden to allocate $106 billion, including for Ukraine and Israel. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address the Congress on Tuesday via a secure video conference

This was reported by The Hill.

It is noted that the vote should take place this week. Schumer noted that the need to approve aid to Ukraine is dictated by the fact that Ukraine is running out of resources to continue countering the Russian invasion.

"I urge every single senator to think where we are at this moment in history. America’s national security is on the line around the world — in Europe, in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific. (Additional assistance - ed.) could determine the trajectory of democracy for years to come. We are at a moment in history," Schumer said in a speech on Monday.

The publication notes that the bill is unlikely to overcome this initial obstacle.

At the same time, Republicans have stated that they will vote against proceeding on the supplemental bill unless it includes important provisions to strengthen border control in the southern United States. In this case, the document will not be adopted in the House of Representatives, where Republicans are in the majority.

In addition, according to Schumer, the day before the Senate is scheduled to vote on the allocation of a package of 61 million dollars for Ukraine, Zelenskyy and the senators will have a conversation.

The President of Ukraine is to inform the senators about the state of the war in Ukraine and the need for additional military aid.

"The administration has invited President Zelenskyy to address senators in our classified briefing tomorrow so that we can hear directly from him what is at stake in this vote. I ask that all senators attend this important briefing," Schumer said.
