US has three models for ending war in Ukraine - Washington Post
Washington is considering three models of a negotiated end to the Russian war in Ukraine, two of them involve a loss of territory and were rejected by the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
This was reported by the Washington Post.
It is noted that there are three different models of what a negotiated end to the war could look like, "each of which has supporters in the (Biden's) administration."
The first model is part of the peace plan that Zelensky proposed last month. It envisages Russia's withdrawal from the entire territory of Ukraine that it currently occupies, including Crimea and the areas of eastern Donbas that it captured in 2014. The second model of the end of the war with the Russian Federation is a retreat to the 2014 line. According to the third model, withdrawal will include Donbas, but not Crimea.
"The latter two options Zelenskyy has made clear he will not support, noting that peace can only come when the Russian invaders have retreated from all occupied territory," the publication emphasizes.
At the same time, one of the high-ranking US officials told the newspaper that the discussion between the US and Ukraine about options for ending the war "is currently something like an academic discussion", since there are no signs that Russia is interested in the conversation.
At the same time, amid a demonstration of unity, Zelenskyy and Biden differ in their views on some military needs of Ukraine. In particular, the Ukrainian president and his advisers continue to insist on the provision of modern weapons by Washington.
US defense officials have said that Ukraine already has enough tanks and that the US Abrams that Kyiv is requesting are too complex to maintain and operate.
