US diplomat Volker calls for NATO membership for Ukraine even amid war
Kurt Volker, former US Ambassador to NATO (2008-2009) and US Special Representative for Ukraine (2017-2019) speaks about Ukraine’s NATO membership, deterring China, threat of nuclear war and more
US diplomat Kurt Volker discussed the issues of Ukraine’s NATO membership and other topics on Espreso TV.
The diplomat has urged for Ukraine to become a NATO member even before the war with Russia is over. He argues that NATO’s hesitance encourages Putin to continue his brutal war against Ukraine sends a signal to Russia and China that their actions may go unaddressed.
He also mentioned that such hesitance may be a result of fear of further escalation by Russia, particularly a nuclear one.
However, he stressed that NATO should take a stance that will show Putin that he cannot continue waging this unjustified war. Helping Ukraine in defeating Russia is crucial, as it will not only preserve the lives of Ukrainians and make Europe and the world more secure, but also serve as a tool of deterrence against China.
Volker emphasized that the Russian army is poorly trained, lacks equipment, and suffers significant losses in Ukraine. However, Putin will persist in his goal of trying to reestablish the Russian Empire and destroy Ukraine as a nation unless the world takes the necessary steps to stop him.
