Ukraine announces new positive step toward U.S. minerals agreement
First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced that Ukraine and the United States have made a positive step forward in negotiations on a rare earth minerals agreement, which they plan to formalize in a memorandum of understanding
The minister shared the news on Facebook.
“A new positive step with the United States regarding the economic partnership agreement and the creation of an investment fund for Ukraine’s recovery. Our technical teams have worked thoroughly on the agreement — there is significant progress, and the legal teams made the right emphasis in the draft. Thanks to the negotiators on both sides,” Svyrydenko wrote.
According to her, both the U.S. and Ukrainian sides agreed to reflect this progress in a memorandum of intent. In the meantime, both countries are preparing to finalize the agreement soon.
The minister emphasized that while further work is needed on specific provisions, many elements have already been negotiated and “the level of the agreement should be sufficiently high.”
“The agreement will be subject to ratification in Ukraine’s parliament. It will open up opportunities for investment and development in Ukraine, and it will also contribute to meaningful economic growth for both Ukraine and the United States,” Svyrydenko added.
- The United States will not hold any negotiations or enter into any bilateral agreements with Russia regarding the easing of sanctions until a ceasefire in Ukraine is achieved.
