UN General Assembly rejects Russia's proposal for a closed vote on the resolution condemning Russia's annexation of Ukrainian territories
Russia advocates a secret vote for the UN resolution condemning the annexation of Ukraine's regions, but the majority of country representatives did not support it.
RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to the live broadcast of the UN General Assembly.
According to the vote:
107 delegations supported open voting; 13 spoke against; 39 abstained from voting.
Therefore, voting on the draft resolution condemning "referendums" in the occupied regions of Ukraine will be open.
As BBC notes, the decision to bring this issue to the consideration of the 193 members of the General Assembly was made after Russia used its veto power in the Security Council on September 30 and blocked the draft resolution condemning the announced annexation.
The General Assembly must now vote on a draft resolution confirming that this kind of annexation is illegal under international law.
Before the vote, representatives of more than 60 countries will express their opinion.
