The average Ukrainian household would have to endure five weeks without electricity from October 10 to the end of December 2022, according to estimates based on Ukrenergo, the operator of Ukraine's energy system, data.
At the same time, the organization believes that the capacity to generate electricity decreased by 61 percent during the year. 6 out of 75 power units were destroyed, 16 were damaged, one is under the temporary control of the Russian Federation, and 22 did not work due to logistical problems with gas or coal supplies.
In addition, the summer repair campaign of power units may cause a power shortage in the power system, the UN suggested.
The experts say that if several nuclear power plants are not working, the power system may experience a shortage of energy.
